After four years together, Bundesliga side TSG Hoffenheim and goalkeeper Philipp Pentke will go their separate ways at the end of the season. The 38-year-old goalkeeper’s contract, which expires on June 30, 2023, will not be extended.
“Philipp is a team player. With his positive character, he has been an important member of our goalkeeping team over the past four years alongside our Number 1 Oliver Baumann and our Germany junior internationals Luca Philipp and Nahuel Noll,” said Alexander Rosen. “We’ve always been able to rely on Penne. Whether it’s in training or a match – he has been there when needed. In the changing room too, his words carry a lot of weight due to his great experience,” explained the director of football.
“I’d like to thank TSG Hoffenheim for the great time,” said Philipp Pentke, who would like to continue his playing career. “I’ve been given the opportunity by the TSG management to play both in the Bundesliga and the Europa League. They have been very special experiences for me. I’ll always carry the club, the people who have accompanied me here during this time and above all the fans in my heart.”
Pentke completed a transfer to Hoffenheim from Jahn Regensburg in July 2019. The goalkeeper made his Bundesliga debut on Matchday 18 of the 2019/20 season campaign in a 1-2 home defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt. Pentke played eight Bundesliga matches for TSG and made one appearance in the UEFA Europa League, three in the DFB-Pokal and four for the Hoffenheim Regionalliga fourth division team.
