Kickstart FC overcomes Lords FA with 4-1 win in IWL!

In their fourth group stage match of the Indian Women’s League, Kickstart FC sealed a 4-1 win over Lords FA in Ahmedabad. This win was helped by goals from Kioko Elizabeth, Bibicha Devi, Saru Limbu, and Soniya Marak.

Ahead of the match, Kickstart FC’s coach Langam Chaoba Devi had remarked.´, “All the remaining matches are very important for us and we will keep the same tempo and same winning attitude.” The coach made one change to the line-up that had defeated the Churchill Brothers as Anita Kumari was brought in instead of Devneta Roy.

After an early goal scare from Lords FA, Kickstart FC got into their strides very soon and took the lead in the fourth minute when Kioko Elizabeth lobbed the ball over the head of the onrushing Lords FA goalkeeper. In the 12th minute, Kioko scored again but was called offside. The high defensive line maintained by Lords FA was getting constantly breached by through balls by the Kickstart FC midfield but that also meant that Kickstart FC players were regularly falling to the offside trap set by Lords FA. In the 23rd minute, Anita Kumari came very close to scoring but her shot was parried away by the Lords FA goalkeeper.

In the 26th minute, Bibicha Devi pressed the Lords FA defender very high and nicked the ball away from her to slot it home to double the lead. The sole threat from Lords FA, Kathleen Camille Rodrigues from Philippines darted into the Kickstart FC penalty box and was brought down. She converted the resulting penalty in the 34th minute to make it 2-1. In the 39th minute, Nepal International Saru Limbu dissected the Lords FA with a sublime first and slotted in the third goal with aplomb to make it 3-1 in favor of Kickstart FC.

After the restart, Kickstart FC made a few substitutions to bring in more momentum, however, Lords FA had resigned to their half and had gone into a completely defensive mode. It took some time for Kickstart FC to breach the defensive setup of Lords FA. In the 66th minute substitute Sonia Marak tapped in from close range to extend the lead for Kickstart FC.

Astram Oraon of Kickstart FC was named the Hero of the Match for her outstanding performance.

Kickstart FC’s next encounter will be against Celtic Queens FC on May 7 at 8am.
