Kyrgyz Football at School Programme set to enhance capacity of physical educators!

The Kyrgyz Football Union (KFU)’s commitment to enhance the capacity and capability of Physical Education (PE) teachers in the country marked a significant milestone with the introduction of the KFU Football at School Programme.

Supported by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Dream Asia Foundation, the landmark initiative was unveiled on February 9, 2023, by KFU President Mederbek Sydykov and was brought to life in close partnership with the Department of the Bishkek Mayor’s Office, the Sports Department of the Bishkek Mayor’s Office, UNICEF and Red Crescent Kyrgyzstan, whose representatives were also present at the launch.

The KFU Football at School Programme will engage 60 PE teachers from 56 schools as well as four orphanages in Bishkek and the Chui region with as many as 30,000 children expected to benefit, either directly or indirectly, from the pilot project.

The PE teachers will undergo a two-day educational programme with the first batch set to kick start their journey from February 14 to 15 before the second batch of participants are put through the paces from February 16 to 17.

Designed around the AFC Dream Asia Foundation’s three main pillars of Child Safeguarding, Education and Social Inclusion, the curriculum will pave the way for PE teachers to strengthen their soft and hard skills and obtain a better understanding of the basic methodologies and principles of football techniques.

At the same time, first aid training, the prevention of child abuse and violence and importance of child safeguarding will also be cast in sharp focus.

Subsequently, the PE teachers will be given the opportunity to obtain the “D” certificate from the coaching course scheduled to be organised from February 20 to March 3, 2023, with the 25 best performing participants also offered the chance to undertake the “C” licence coaching course later in the year.

Also in the pipeline is a friendly football tournament set to benefit as many as 600 children in the Under-8 age-group category to be held in April 2023 as well as a football festival planned for May 6, 2023.
