LaLiga breaks attendance record with more than 15 million spectators in stadiums!

LaLiga sets all-time record for stadium attendance with 15.776.311 spectators across 2022/2023 season. This is an increase of 6,4% compared to the 2018/2019 campaign, the last season in which there was unrestricted public access prior to Covid. In the 2021/22 season, the stands were not at 100% capacity until October. The increase is 31.3% compared to last season.

In LaLiga Santander, the number of spectators who attended the stadiums was 11.179.866 and in LaLiga SmartBank, after the promotion play-offs were completed, the figure reached 4.596.445.

This season began with several stadiums undergoing partial or complete construction work to their stands. The stadium with the second largest available capacity in LaLiga, the Santiago Bernabéu, with 83,186 seats, maintained a very high occupancy rate despite all that: 78% of the total available capacity. Villarreal and their reserve team played almost half the season away from La Cerámica due to construction work, at Levante’s stadium and their training centre, respectively. Balaidos and Estadi Mallorca Son Moix have also undergone refurbishment with partial grandstand closures at the stadiums.

In addition, and despite the aforementioned building work, we would like to highlight that the average occupancy rate of the stands in relation to the available capacity this season was 80.2%, 11.4% more than in the pre Covid 2018/19 season and 33.6% compared to the 21/22 season.

Taking into account these factors over the seasons, the trend in attendance figures at LaLiga stadiums has continued to grow, except during the pandemic restrictions, confirming that the competitiveness of Spanish professional football is increasingly attracting more and more spectators to LaLiga stadiums.
