Löw names Germany squad for 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Czech Republic & Northern Ireland!

DFB logoGermany coach Joachim Löw has named his 22 player Germany squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against the Czech Republic in Hamburg on October 8 and Northern Ireland in Hanover on October 11.

Returning to the Germany squad from injury are Jerome Boateng (Bayern München), Mario Gomez (VfL Wolfsburg), and Ilkay Gündogan (Manchester City) with Sebastian Rudy (1899 Hoffenheim) recalled for the first time since his elimination from the Euro 2016 squad.

Meanwhile Niklas Süle (1899 Hoffenheim), Jonathan Tah (Bayer 04 Leverkusen) and Leroy Sane (Manchester City) have been send to the Germany Under-21 squad for their final qualifiers.

Karim Bellarabi (Bayer 04 Leverkusen), and André Schürrle (Borussia Dortmund) are out of the squad due to injuries, while Emre Can (FC Liverpool) has just recovered from one and therefore was not selected.

Germany coach Joachim Löw said about the Czech Republic, “Although the Czechs didn’t make it past the group stages of the Euros, they played particularly well against Spain and Croatia. After the Championships, they made some big changes; they’ve brought in a new coach, who in turn has brought in some new young players. This could give them a boost so against us they’ll be particularly motivated. Therefore, we’ll have to be fully concentrated from the beginning.”

“Memories of our Euro 2016 clash with Northern Ireland are still fresh. They are a passionate team and the players have true fighting spirit. The majority of their squad from the Euros will be in Hannover so we know what to expect,”commented Joachim Löw meanwhile on the Northern Ireland side.
