Max Eberl to join Bayern Munich management on March 1!

At its meeting on February 26, the FC Bayern München AG supervisory board unanimously resolved that Max Eberl will become the club’s new Board Member for Sport on March 1, 2024. The 50-year-old has signed a contract with the German record champions until 30 June 2027. The board also agreed that from July 1, 2024 the FC Bayern München AG executive board will consist of three positions: a Chief Executive Officer, a Chief Financial & Sales Officer and a Board Member for Sport.

Herbert Hainer, FC Bayern München AG supervisory board chair said, “We are delighted to have appointed Max Eberl as our new Board Member for Sport. Not only does he have decades of experience in football management, but he also started playing at FC Bayern and turned professional here. We are convinced that he will successfully shape and characterise the future of this club.”

Max Eberl, FC Bayern Board Member for Sport said, “I spent my entire childhood and youth at FC Bayern and in Munich, so it’s something special for me to return in a new role to the club where it all began. The job as Board Member for Sport is a great challenge, which I will approach with a lot of respect and humility, but with even more anticipation. Together with everyone here, I want to do everything I can to ensure that FC Bayern continues to be successful in the future and brings joy to its fans.”

Born in Bogen in Lower Bavaria, Max Eberl joined FC Bayern at the age of six, progressed through all the club’s junior teams and made his professional debut in the German record champions’ colours. After his active playing career at VfL Bochum, Greuther Fürth and Borussia Mönchengladbach, he began his career in management in Mönchengladbach in 2005, first as youth coordinator, then as sporting director, before moving up to the executive board as Managing Director Sport in 2010. He stepped down in January 2022 and worked as Managing Director Sport for RB Leipzig from the end of 2022 until September 2023.

Until 30 June 2024, the FC Bayern executive board will comprise four members: CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen, his deputy Michael Diederich, Board Member for Sport Max Eberl and Board Member for Marketing Andreas Jung, who informed the German record champions in November that he would not be renewing his contract, which expires in the summer. From July 1, the executive board will consist of three members: Jan-Christian Dreesen (CEO), deputy CEO Michael Diederich (Finance & Sales) and Max Eberl (Sport).

Herbert Hainer said, “The supervisory board has agreed this new organisational structure for our executive board, creating lean and efficient structures that enable quick coordination and dynamic decision-making. It is important to us at FC Bayern to be always able to act quickly. Therefore, from July 1, the executive board will comprise three people: Jan-Christian Dreesen, Michael Diederich and Max Eberl. This follows the departure of Andreas Jung, to whom we are very grateful for his 25 years of magnificent work.”
