Starting from the upcoming 2026-27 season, the name of the league association and the league organisation will be aligned with the competition brand and changed from DFL e.V. and DFL GmbH to Bundesliga e.V. and Bundesliga GmbH.
All corresponding names of committees and platforms will be adjusted accordingly. This decision was unanimously made by the clubs of the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 at a DFL Members Assembly held today. Previously, both the DFL Executive Committee and the Supervisory Board of DFL GmbH had unanimously supported this step – for the following reasons, among others:
- Unity: The structural unity of German professional football will be emphasised even more strongly. In the future, the unique “Bundesliga” brand, established in 1963, will serve as the umbrella for the league association, the league organisation, the clubs, and the competitions, both internally and externally.
- Consistency: At the European level, it is common practice in the major football leagues – as well as in the global professional leagues from the USA – to have a uniform naming of the league association, league organisation, and competition.
- Perception: Both in sports-political discourse and in global marketing, “Bundesliga” ensures clear identification.
- Distinctiveness: The “Bundesliga” umbrella allows for a clearer distinction of responsibilities and areas of authority compared to the German Football Association (DFB), which has not always been the case between DFL and DFB, especially in external perception.
- Structure: As part of the recently approved reorganisation of the DFL Group, the new sales and digital subsidiary was already named Bundesliga Media. In this context, a comprehensive renaming was discussed within the committees.
As was the case from 2000 to 2017, the Bundesliga word and picture mark will once again serve as the umbrella brand for the league association and the league organisation. The existing competition logos of the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 will not be affected by this decision.
