Minerva Academy FC coaches complete the FIFA Hygiene Implementation Diploma!

COVID-19 is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus and has been categorized as a pandemic by the World Health Organization. The global pandemic has affected all aspects of life, including the beautiful game. The majority of football competitions around the world were put on hold to reduce the risk of spreading the disease by reducing social interactions and recently the leagues have resumed and new seasons have kicked off with taking preventative measures.

Minerva Academy FC has been fighting the global pandemic in its own way. The club implemented a complete lockdown in the first phase of the lockdown being declared across the country by the Central Govt. The staff of the club reached out to the local blood bank twice and responded to the massive blood shortage in the blood bank and donated blood by taking precautionary measures and maintaining social distance. The club also donated to the Prime Minister care fund and also donated to the State govt funds to fight the pandemic. The club recently opened its doors for the players, coaches, and staff after the UNLOCK issued nationwide by the Central Govt. The club installed disinfection tunnels and also does disinfection and sanitization of all office spaces and the club’s facility regularly. The club also made it mandatory for the coaches to complete the “COVID Safe Sports Coaches” certification. The club strictly follows the SOPs issued by Government Of India and the Ministry of Health for sports activities.

FIFA believes special care needs to be taken to enable a return to football. Keeping that in mind FIFA organized an online diploma certification program. This program has been created specifically for the Hygiene Implementation Officers who are in charge of ensuring that the hygiene measures set out by FIFA, and/or the confederations and/or the relevant local authorities are implemented at official sites, training facilities, or at the stadium.

Minerva Academy FC welcomed the decision taken by the parent body and let their coaches do this online diploma course. The Hygiene Implementation Officer’s role is to ensure the strict implementation of COVID-19 preventative measures and associated operational protocols in their area of responsibility which can be official sites or at the training ground. The management believes that the coaches can be updated to cope up with the new normal by doing this course and understands that this is important for the coaches to have a thorough knowledge of the required basic COVID-19 preventive measures and operational protocols, as well as a basic understanding of the relevant local authorities’ requirements and an overview of the local epidemiological situation.
