Minerva Academy FC wants to take Dempo SC’s I-League spot!

Punjabi side Minerva Academy FC from Chandigarh, who had finished second behind Dempo SC in the Second Division League, have written a letter to the All India Football Federation to make their claims known to the national body for the promotion spot after Dempo’s pullout.

In an interesting development, Minerva Academy FC through their CEO Ranjit Bajaj has written an official letter to the AIFF about staking a claim for the promotion spot from the Second Division League to the I-League.

With Dempo SC now formally deciding not to field a team in the I-League, in theory their spot of promotion from the second to the top tier should be open.

In the letter it mentions amongst other things, “We would request you to please promote Minerva as Runners up of the 2nd Division League as guided by regulations and as is our natural and legal right.”

Now it will be interesting to see how the AIFF react to this formal request from Minerva Academy FC, who surely have a put in their favour and the club has also written in their better that their application via the corporate route is also alive and pending with the national body.

After keeping relegated Aizawl FC on compationate grounds in the I-League and reinstating Churchill Brothers SC into the top tier it now will be a case of why them and not us, if Minerva Academy FC are not given a spot in the upcoming I-League.
