Mizoram FA to focus on development of Women’s Football!

The Mizoram Football Association held an executive meeting at Tourist Lodge, Chaltlang yesterday, April 3, with the development of Women’s Football among the chief subjects in discussion.

MFA President Lal Thanzara led the meeting where reports of the recent undertakings of the MFA were reviewed. The MFA acknowledged the success of the Mizoram representatives in football at the recently concluded Khelo India School Games, and congratulates the players and the coaching staff.

It also extends congratulations to the Mizoram team and officials who reached the semifinals of the just concluded 72nd Santosh Trophy. The MFA also expresses gratitude to the Mizo community of Kolkata for their support of the Mizoram team throughout the tournament and sincerely thanks the Joint Resident Commissioner and his colleagues in the Mizoram House in Kolkata.

The establishment of the MFA Women’s Football League was also approved in the meeting with a separate body set up to study and research the directions within which the league will be operated.

The MFA has also been in talks with the MHIP to organise a women’s competition this year, and it has taken a decision to organise an Inter Village Women’s Football Tournament in the month of May.

A representative from Tata Trusts, Brijinder Singh Anand gave a presentation in the meeting, highlighting the directions in which the new Centre of Excellence, to be opened on the April 13 at Mualpui, will function.

Tata Trusts and the MFA has already agreed an MoU in which the two bodies will collaborate towards the development of football in the state. Further plans regarding the subject were discussed and approved in the meeting.

The election for the District Football Associations under the MFA should also be held within the first week of May, with the MFA Annual General Body Meeting to take place toward the end of May.

Nima Chokay, FIFA Technical Consultant for South Asia, is scheduled to arrive next week and conduct a thorough study of football in Mizoram on April 10/11. The various undertakings of the MFA will be discussed and reviewed during the visit.
