56 participants from all across the state from different background turned up for the Futsal Workshop. The participants include retired and active footballers, coaches, referees, organisers and people who are interested in the game of Futsal.

Sanjay Kumar – Sr. Manager, Competitions (AIFF) & AFC Match Commissioner – (Football & Futsal) gave an in-depth and insightful elucidation of Futsal in the workshop. He also tutored the participants and gave a detailed narrative of the History of Futsal, Futsal in Asia, Futsal Laws of the game, comparison between Futsal and Football, Match day organisation and the necessary measures needed for the expansion of Futsal in the nation and in the state. The participants also engaged in practical sessions after theory classes.

In a first for the state, the Mizoram Football Association will start an inaugural MFA Futsal Cup 2017 from May 4, 2017 in Aizawl, Mizoram to further boost the sport.

“The presence of Futsal is already there in Mizoram but we needed an organized structure and this workshop aimed to tutor us in that,” said Mizoram Football Association’s General Secretary and AIFF’s Executive Committee member Lalnghinglova Hmar.

“It has been a very fruitful workshop and with participants from all spheres of life in Mizoram the sport of Futsal is certainly going to develop in the coming years.”

“The Workshop was also a ground preparation to boost the growth of Futsal as the topography of Mizoram does not provide flattened 11v11 grounds and thus small sided games are very popular in the area,” he added.
