mpl-aizawl-fc-chanmari-fcCurrent Mizoram Premier League champions Aizawl FC played their second fixture of MPL5 last night against local rivals and league title challengers Chanmari FC in less than favourable weather conditions. However both teams ensured a thrilling encounter with Chanmari FC coming out on top with a late second-half goal.

Both team started brightly and there was immediate action with Malsawmfela making himself a nuisance for Aizawl FC’s backline while on the other end, AFC’s Bright Mends just blasted a tad too high on goal.

The game gradually settled into a midfield battle with both teams coming up short in the final third. Malsawmfela again tested Aizawl FC’s goalkeeper while captain Rohminga and Ricky looked threatening on the break for Aizawl FC.

13 minutes into the second half play was halted for about 20 minutes because of excessive fog. Chanmari FC then gained the upper hand as play was restarted after Aizawl FC had looked to build momentum at the start of the second half.

Chanmari FC continued to look threatening and duly got their deserved goal in the 82nd minute when ex-India junior international striker Sawmfela converted Reuben’s delivery exhibiting a true striker’s instinct.

Match winning hero Malsawmfela was duly given Man of the Match Award for his performance.

After finishing Round 3 of the Mizoram Premier League, Chanmari FC and Bethlehem Vengthlang FC leads the table with seven points each, where as Aizawl FC remained on three points with a game in hand.
