The fairytale ending has been completed and the unfathomable journey has reached its zenith. Chawnpui FC are champions of Mizoram after they won the final against FC Venghnuai on penalties on Tuesday, December 6 in Aizawl in front of a huge crowd including Kalyan Chaubey, the President of the All India Football Federation.
Chawnpui FC, who barely scraped into the semifinals by the narrowest of margins in the league rounds, managed to come up with the goods once again when they needed it most. They faced a motivated FC Venghnuai team in the final at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, which resulted in a 2-2 draw after regulated time. As the scoreline remained the same after 30 minutes of extra time, it was Chawnpui FC who converted all their penalties to seal a 5-3 win.
