Mohamed Simakan extends RB Leipzig contract until 2027!

RB Leipzig fan favourite Mo Simakan will be with the club for the next five years. The club have announced that defender Mo Simakan has extended his contract with Leipzig by an extra year, meaning he will be with the club until the summer of 2027.

The defender has so far made 60 appearances for RB Leipzig. He has been utilised as a central defender on 49 occasions and as a full-back 11 times. He has often been deployed as a right-back this season and has been a real threat at both ends of the pitch. He also recently made his debut for the France U-21s in this position.

Simakan has scored four goals and picked up six assists as a Leipzig player. He has particularly impressed this season with his three goals and five assists. His first goal came in a 6-1 win over Greuther Fürth back in March.

Simakan has been a key player this season and has started 19 of the 24 games leading up to the winter break. He has also been directly involved in four goals in the UEFA Champions League (one goal, three assists) and was named as the Player of the Match in the 3-2 win over Real Madrid back in October.

The RB Leipzig number 2’s biggest success to date, however, came back in May, when he lifted the DFB-Pokal. He featured in the starting XI in all six cup matches and played 113 minutes against Freiburg in the final at the Olympiastadion.

Mohamed Simakan said, “It was a big step for me when I arrived at the club a year and a half ago. I felt happy here from day one and I was welcomed with open arms. That is really important for me as it allows me to perform on the pitch and to develop in the best possible way. The club and the city have quickly become my second home and I’m quite simply delighted to be here. We have already achieved a lot in 2022 and I’m looking forward to everything that is still to come. The trust and recognition that I receive from the management, the coaching staff, my teammates and above all, from the fans, show that we have a bright future together.”

RB Leipzig sporting director Max Eberl said, “Mo Simakan is a player who has already made fantastic progress at RB Leipzig and, at just 22 years of age, has great potential to become even better. He has made a great impression in his right-back position and he has shown both his attacking and defensive qualities. This has really underlined his flexibility. Mo is a key player in our team and really indefinites with RB Leipzig and all the people connected with the club. We are delighted that we have been able to extend his contract ahead of time.”
