Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan returned to winning ways in the Calcutta Football League – Premier Division ‘A’ with a 3-1 win over United SC at the floodlit Mohun Bagan ground on the Kolkata Maidans.
After the goalless draw against Peerless SC and the abandoned tie against Tollygunge Agragami with all its side effects, the Mariners returned to normalcy ahead of the derby next Wednesday, if all goes per schedule.
With this win Mohun Bagan move back into second place behind archrivals East Bengal with now 16 points from six matches, while United SC stay on six points from seven matches.
Mohun Bagan went ahead in the 18th minute through a strong Daniel Bidemi left footer but the lead lasted only four minutes as United SC equalised through Budhiram Tudu following a counter attack. Suddenly United SC were putting pressure on Mohun Bagan, but Scottish striker Darryl Duffy in the 35th minute again put Mohun Bagan ahead and it would stay this way until the halftime break.
After the breather Mohun Bagan today had the referee on their side as Raju Gaikwad handled in the ball, but the match officials allowed play to go on. The Mariners sealed their victory in the 56th minute with Daniel Bidemi scored his second of the night as they won 3-1 in the end.
