Mohun Bagan score controversial 2-1 win over Peerless SC in CFL!

Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan AC scored a controversial 2-1 win in their 2017 Calcutta Football League – Premier Division ‘A’ match against Peerless SC at their own Mohun Bagan ground on Monday evening.

It was an even affair before Mohun Bagan took the lead. A Raynier Fernandes cross was met brilliantly by winger Nikhil Kadam in the 33rd minute to give the Mariners the lead. But Peerless SC, who have been having an impressive CFL campaign, equalised through striker Leonce Dodoz. It would stay 1-1 at the break.

In the second session, Peerless SC continued to cause problems for Mohun Bagan, but then came the 58th minute. Referee Nasiruddin Laskar pointed to the spot after substitute Azharuddin Mallick was fouled according to him in the box with Peerless players led by captain Syed Rahim Nabi alleging that it wasn’t a foul at all and if at all outside of the box. The chaos lasted a few minutes and then striker Kamo Stephen Bayi coolly scored. The result remained this way until the end of Mohun Bagan, who had some nervous moments to survive.

With this win, Mohun Bagan move back to the top of the standings with now 22 points from eight matches, while their archrivals and seven time defending champions East Bengal remain on 19 points from the same number of matches and they face Tollygunge Agragami tomorrow.

The Kolkata derby on Sunday, September 24 will now surely decide the champions of the Calcutta Football League.
