Mohun Bagan set to organise I-League matches at its Maidan ground!

Asia’s oldest football club Mohun Bagan AC will achieve another first, hosting an I-League game at their historic Mohun Bagan ground on the Kolkata Maidans on Friday, December 29 against the Indian Arrows.

The decision was taken by the I-League and their broadcaster after some necessary adjustments were made in and around the Mohun Bagan ground to facilitate the request of the Mariners to play at their home ground rather than the artificial turf at Barasat Stadium, which lately has become a problem with numerous of injuries to players.

Mohun Bagan won face on Friday, the AIFF’s Developmental side Indian Arrows at 5.30pm and again would play at home against Chennai City FC on January 2, 2018.

Mohun Bagan finance secretary Debashish Dutta said, “It will be a proud occasion when we host the first-ever I-League game at our ground. We believe there won’t be any glitch whatsoever and we can stage the game successfully without any hassle whatsoever.”

In its 21 year history of the National Football League/I-League no full fixture of one of the three Kolkata giants – Mohun Bagan, East Bengal, Mohammean Sporting has been played on the Kolkata Maidans except the group qualifiers for the inaurugal NFL in 1996.
