Relegation threatened Ramhlun North FC earned a much needed win against Mizoram Police FC in round 11 of the Mizoram Premier League.
After a four goal drubbing from Aizawl FC in the last round, Ramhlun North FC were in dire need of a win in order to have hopes of safety from relegation. Goals from Lalremruata and Lalliansanga were enough to seal victory as they shock the Police team.
Mizoram Police FC were in good spirits after halting Chhinga Veng FC’s unbeaten run in the season but they were ultimately made to pay for their profligacy in front of goal.
Ramhlun North FC took an early lead from Lalremruata who finished off a delivery from Lalmawizuala. They forced Mizoram Police FC goalkeeper Lalmuanawma to make another save when Lalliansanga was presented with a chance soon after taking the lead.
But it was Mizoram Police FC who had the better chances in the first half as Malsawmfela and F. Lalrinpuia forced Ramhlun North FC goalkeeper Eddie Zorammawia into action while Lalhmunmawia headed against the post from a corner.
Their attacking efforts paid off in stoppage time when Lalramtharmawia converted a beautiful freekick to get his side back in the game right before halftime.
The Police team started brightly in the second period with Malsawmfela and Lalbiakhlua combining well to create a nuisance for Ramhlun North defenders.
Ramhlun North FC retook the lead on the 64th minute when a hopeful shot from Lalliansanga from outside the box found the back of Muanawma’s net.
Mizoram Police were presented a golden chance eight minutes later when Melory Laldinsanga handled R. Malsawmtluanga’s freekick inside the box. Malsawmfela stepped up to take the resulting penalty but Eddie Zorammawia saved his spot kick.
Ramhlun North FC ultimately hung on to their lead till the end as they gave themselves new hope of staying up for next season.
