Mumbai City FC face Air Force Club in final AFC Champions League group stage game!

Air Force Club head coach Hakeem Shaker will be eyeing nothing less than victory when Air Force Club face India’s Mumbai City in Group B of the AFC Champions League 2022 at the King Fahd International Stadium on Tuesday.

Air Force Club are second in the table with seven points and victory against the Indian Super League side will take the Iraqi club a step closer to their first Round of 16 appearance.

The Iraqi side are no strangers to charting their own history when they became the first club to win the AFC Cup three times in a row – between 2016 and 2018 and Shaker strongly believes Air Force Club will walk away with the three points.

“We are hoping to be one of the clubs to qualify as the best second-placed teams,” said Shaker. “We stand a good chance of making the Round of 16 but we need the three points to do it. Playing against Mumbai City will be difficult as they have nothing to lose and we must be careful not to underestimate our opponents.”

“Both clubs made mistakes in their previous match but after our morale boosting win against Al Jazira, we hope to improve further and hopefully our perseverance will take us through to the next round. We have been very fortunate with the players that we have brought here to Saudi Arabia. They have the experience and confidence to win matches.”

“When we arrived here before Matchday One, we were having some issues with fitness as we have not been playing competitively. But as the tournament went on we changed the line-up many times but also ensured the perfect preparation for the players. It’s the final match for us and we are only thinking about winning.”

Mumbai City FC enter Matchday Six at the bottom of the table having picked up a win, a draw and three losses, a series of results which have ended their qualification campaign.

Having already created history by becoming the first Indian side to win an AFC Champions League match, Des Buckingham and his Mumbai City charges want nothing more than to end their campaign on a winning note.
