New Mizoram Football Association leadership elected!

The Mizoram Football Association (MFA) convened a General Body Meeting on May 23, 2024, at Aijal Club. Representatives from 11 District Football Associations attended to review the various activities and achievements of the 2023-2024 season, and to discuss plans for the upcoming season. In the afternoon, new MFA office bearers for the upcoming term were also elected.

Pu Lal Thanzara, the outgoing MFA President, highlighted the achievements of Mizoram football during his tenure, including successes in the Senior Santosh Trophy, the I-League, and the National Games football. He expressed his gratitude for the ongoing efforts made to ensure a steady contribution of Mizo players to the Senior Men’s National Team and the collaboration with the Reliance Foundation in organizing youth tournaments.

Pu Lal Thanzara also expressed pride in the financial rewards earned by Mizo youth through football and the substantial representation of MFA members in the All India Football Federation (AIFF). He noted that these achievements were made possible through the dedicated efforts of district and zonal football enthusiasts.

MFA Honorary Secretary Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar outlined the various accomplishments of the outgoing season. He mentioned that Mizoram emerged as champions in the Sub-Junior National Championship, reached the semi-finals in the Senior Santosh Trophy and the National Under-20 Championship, but regrettably underperformed in junior competitions.

Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar expressed appreciation for the fruitful collaboration with the Reliance Foundation, which has enabled the successful organization of youth leagues in Aizawl, Lunglei, Champhai, and Kolasib. He reported that children participating in around 30 matches per season, showing significant improvement in their skills can only be a positive for the future.

The Sports Minister, praised Pu Lal Thanzara for his supportive and collaborative leadership style, emphasizing that MFA remains free from political influence. Over his 13-year presidency, Mizoram football has achieved top rankings in various national state-level competitions, reflecting his commitment to progress, but despite his pivotal role in these accomplishments, he has consistently deferred accolades to others.
