Nike Premier Cup: Chennaiyin FC U15s beaten by champions Minerva Punjab FC!

The Chennaiyin FC Under-15 team lost 0-5 to Minerva Punjab FC at the Utorda Sports Complex in Goa earlier today, its first defeat in this season’s Under-15 Youth League.

Minerva Punjab FC, the current Under-15 title holders, were quick off the blocks and took the lead on 13 minutes courtesy Arjun Sharma’s free-kick. Chennaiyin FC, playing in the final round in their debut season, rallied hard to equalize, but Minerva Punjab FC doubled their advantage before half-time with a goal from Benjohnson Moirangthem Singh.

Benjohnson then completed his double just after the interval, making it 3-0 to Minerva Punjab FC. The Chennaiyin FC U-15s made some attacking changes in response to falling further behind, and looked dangerous for brief spells in the second period. But with Chennaiyin FC on the offensive, Minerva Punjab FC always had a chance to extend their lead further, and that’s what they did in the final ten minutes. Goals from Samson and Isra Khan towards the end making it 5-0 for Minerva Punjab FC.

The Chennaiyin FC U-15s will be aiming to bounce back against their next opponents FC Mumbaikars, whom they face on January 31 at the Utorda Sports Complex.
