Nine teams confirm spots in 2023 AFC U-20 Asian Cup – Uzbekistan!

Nine teams confirmed their places in the 2023 AFC U-20 Asian Cup – Uzbekistan Finals after finishing top of their qualifying groups on Sunday.

Several others, meanwhile, look well placed to advance as the five best second-placed teams, with their berths to be confirmed following the conclusion of Group H which will be played in October.

Saudi Arabia advanced from Group A after ending their campaign with a 1-0 win against China PR, finishing with a perfect record of nine points.

Qatar were the Group B winners, defeating Bahrain 2-0 for their fourth win as they finished five points ahead of their second-placed West Asian rivals.

Japan were made to work hard by Yemen but the East Asians came through, winning 1-0 against the West Asian side to emerge the top team in Group C with four wins out of four.

Jordan had to work hard against Chinese Taipei but the goalless draw was enough for the West Asian side to top Group D with 10 points.

South Korea were another team to finish with a 100 percent record, defeating Malaysia 6-2 for their third win in Group E.

Indonesia qualified from Group F after a thrilling 3-2 victory over Vietnam, with the hosts registering three impressive wins en route to booking their spot in the Finals.

Group G saw Oman bounce back from Friday’s defeat to Afghanistan to beat Thailand 1-0 to snatch top spot from the Southeast Asian side.

Tajikistan finished as the top team in Group I as a 2-1 win over Cambodia meant they pipped Lebanon for the top spot.

Iran, meanwhile, turned on the power in the second half to defeat United Arab Emirates 2-0 for their third victory in Group J.

While the five best second-placed teams who will advance to the Finals will only be confirmed following the conclusion of Group H, Vietnam, Kyrgyz Republic, China PR and Syria look well placed for berths in Uzbekistan 2023 while Thailand and Lebanon will have to endure anxious waits.

Group H, consisting Australia, Iraq, India and hosts Kuwait, will be played on October 14-18.
