The AFC Coach Education Pro License tutor Course 2023 concluded last Friday, underlining the Asian Football Confederation (AFC)’s efforts to provide continuous support to its Member Associations (MAs) to succeed at the pinnacle of world football.
Taking place in the Thai capital city of Bangkok, the course saw Heads of Coach Education as well as Technical Directors from 15 MAs come together and exchange ideas to devise plans for the best way forward regarding the implementation of AFC’s Pro and A License courses across the Continent.
The participants, who gained valuable insights from experts such as AFC Principal Coaching Consultant Wim Koevermans and UEFA Instructor Ruud Dokter, discussed several topics such as reality-based learning principles, football action language and adult learning.
Following the intensive classroom sessions, the candidates also underwent thorough practical sessions where their game-reading skills as well as their ability to design proper practical sessions were evaluated in detail. Moreover, their newly-acquired knowledge from the classroom sessions was also put to the test.

With the diverse nature of the Confederation’s MAs, the programme also provided an excellent opportunity for the participants to shed light on the unique challenges that each region may be facing.
“This course has been a great learning experience for all of us. Not only did we get to hear from experts such as Ruud Dokter, we also got the chance to exchange information about our coaching courses which allowed us to improve our own programs tutoring skills as well,” said Yeyen Tumena from Indonesia.
Echoing his sentiments, Subramani Shunmugham from Singapore said: “I am so glad that the AFC’s courses are back on the ground. It has let us meet our colleagues from across Asia and now, we are going back with a wealth of knowledge which I hope we will put to good use and give our coach education courses the resources that our student coaches deserve.”
