Rajasthan United FC – a good mix of youth & experience in maiden I-League campaign!

New entrants into the I-League, Rajasthan United FC have come to the season with one of the youngest coaches in the competition. Head coach Francesc Bonet, who is just 28-years-old, believes Rajasthan United has a number of experienced Indians and foreigners, along with a number of good youngsters.

Bonet is confident that the squad is ready to cope with the challenge of the I-League. “We have players who have been with the club since last year and have ambitions of playing in the I-League. We have also signed experienced players, good foreigners and assembled a competitive squad.”

The Spaniard was just appointed at the beginning of December but has already settled in well. “I like what I’ve seen. Of course, staying in a hotel isn’t ideal. But with these conditions, there isn’t a choice. I still feel great,” he said.

Rajasthan United have a star-studded foreign line-up with a lot of Indian football experience among the likes of Marcelinho and Komron Tursunov. “They are really great players and I hope they deliver high-quality performances with the experience they have,” remarked the Spaniard.

Abhishek Ambekar has lifted the I-League trophy with Minerva Punjab FC and feels that the side has a “good mixture” of youth and experience. When asked about his expectations for the season with Rajasthan United, he replied, “I’m happy to be here. It’s a good side with a mixture of experience and youth. We’re hoping to finish in the top half of the table and qualify for the championship round.”

Being in a bio-bubble presents its own challenge, but Ambekar revealed that the squad hasn’t been mentally stressed. “We have a lot of fun sessions and enjoy being in the bubble.”

Rajasthan United deployed a classic 4-4-2 during the I-League Qualifiers, however, Bonet hinted that might not be the case in the upcoming season. “With a lot of new players, there might be a new system of play. We’ll see how we set up tactically. Maybe we’ll switch them every match,” smiled Bonet.

With Rajasthan United becoming the first team from the state to compete in the I-League, coach Bonet gathers that it’s going to be really impactful for football in the region. “The entire Rajasthan will be supporting us, and I hope they have a good experience.”
