Rajasthan United FC & TRAU hoping to bounce back!

Rajasthan United FC will hope to regain form as they take on TRAU FC in their I-League 2022-23 fixture at the Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday (January 28, 2023). The match is set to kick off at 2pm IST.

Since the season resumed in early January, Rajasthan United have had a mixed share of results. After defeating the then leaders Sreenidi Deccan, the Desert Warriors’ spirits were soon crushed by an excruciating 0-5 home defeat at the hands of Churchill Brothers.

Against TRAU, Rajasthan United will try to revitalise their campaign but it will be an uphill task for them without former captain Joseba Beitia and starlet Nikum Gyamar, both of whom have left the club.

Rajasthan United head coach Pushpender Kundu, however, sees the situation in a positive way. “It’s a good thing. As a coach I feel blessed as the players are developing here at Rajasthan United and going to higher levels. It shows their improvement.”

Kyrgyz midfielder Bektur Amangeldiev played the entire 90 minutes when Rajasthan United faced a 1-3 defeat in the reverse fixture against TRAU in Imphal. The 24-year-old said, “Our last game against them wasn’t good. Right now, our mood is good. We are in good shape and everyone is ready. We want to take revenge tomorrow.”

TRAU had failed to win any of their five away matches until they beat defending champions Gokulam Kerala in Manjeri two weeks ago. However, the Red Pythons followed that success with a heartbreaking derby defeat to NEROCA, conceding twice in injury time.

“It was not a good day for us. We couldn’t convert our opportunities. But no doubt, NEROCA also played well,” said coach Leimapokpam Nandakumar Singh.

“Rajasthan United are a very good team. It’s going to be a crucial match for both sides, so I’m expecting a very high-intensity game,” he shared his thoughts on Saturday’s encounter.

The 2020-21 season had TRAU as one of the protagonists in a title race which went down to the wire. They eventually finished third, and Nandakumar believes his current side has also got what it takes to emulate that memorable campaign. “TRAU will try to be among the top teams for the title race. Our boys will try to give their best performance until the very end,” he concluded.

The match between Rajasthan United FC and TRAU FC will be broadcast live on Eurosport and Doordarshan Sports and streamed live on the Discovery Plus OTT platform.
