RB Leipzig extend Hugo Novoa contract, send him on loan to FC Basel!

RB Leipzig have extended teenage Hugo Novoa’s existing contract early by one year lasting now until summer 2025. At the same time, the young Spanish attack will join FC Basel on loan for one and a half years. The loan move to the Swiss Super League is intended to give the 19-year-old winger further experience on the pitch.

Hugo Novoa moved to RB Leipzig’s youth team in the summer of 2019 aged 16 and made the leap to the first-team squad just two years later as a result of his consistent performances and development at the U-17 and U-19 stages.

Last season, the Spaniard made 12 appearances and also became RB Leipzig’s youngest ever Bundesliga goalscorer when he bagged a goal in the 4-1 win over SpVgg Greuther Fürth. In the current 2022/23 season, Novoa has made eleven appearances across the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and the UEFA Champions League. He scored his second goal for the Red Bulls in the away game at FC Augsburg.
