RB Leipzig sign Mohamed Simakan from RC Strasbourg!

French youngster Mohamed Simakan will join Bundesliga side RB Leipzig from Ligue 1 side RC Strasbourg on July 1, 2021, signing a five-year contract. The 20-year-old will wear the number 2 shirt for Die Roten Bullen.

Simakan joined RC Strasbourg’s academy in 2018 and made rose through the U-19 and U-23 into the first team of the French side. He has since established himself in the France Under-20s squad (two appearances) and – despite his young age – has developed into an important player for RSC, making 44 competitive appearances (1 goals, 1 assist).

The defender has been out of action since January following arthroscopic surgery in his right knee.

RB Leipzig sporting director Markus Krösche said, “Mohamed Simakan is a robust, dynamic and versatile defender. He can play in central defence or at full back. At 20, Mohamed is still young and capable of developing. He has already had two seasons as a key player in Strasbourg, also picking up experience in the Europa League. We’re pleased that he has chosen to join us, despite interest from other clubs.”

Meanwhile Mohamed Simakan added, “I chose to join RB Leipzig because I think the club is best for my career. Here, I can continue developing in the best possible way, where I will be challenged every day. I’m looking forward to the Bundesliga, to Leipzig and to meeting my teammates and fans. I spoke to a few players already while I was making my mind up and they only had good things to say. I want to integrate as quickly as possible and play my part in helping the club achieve it’s big goals.”
