Spanish LaLiga giants Real Madrid made a surprise announcement yesterday in naming former player and youth coach Julen Lopetegui as their new head coach.
Julen Lopetegui is currently the head coach of Spain going as one of the favourites into the 2018 FIFA World Cup and once over, he will join Real Madrid.
Interesting to note is that Julen Lopetegui had only extended his contract with ‘La Furja Roja’ on May 22, 2018 until 2020 but with an exit clause, which he is now using to join Real Madrid.
Julen Lopetegui is a former player at Real Madrid and was a scout, youth coach and at Real Madrid ‘B’ besides having been a coach at Rayo Vallecano, Spain Under-19, U-20 & U-21, and FC Porto.
Julen Lopetegui at the age of 51 is regarded as a highly talented coach, but Real Madrid will be a different level of a club side than what he has coached so far.
