Reigning champions Gokulam Kerala FC face Army test in Durand Cup opener!

Gokulam Kerala FC will start their Durand Cup campaign on Sunday as they face Army Red in the Group ‘D’ encounter to be played at Kalyani Stadium at 3pm.

Malabarians are the defending champions and are grouped among Army Red, Assam Rifles, and ISL side Hyderabad FC.

In the opening group ‘D’ encounter, Army Red had defeated Assam Rifles, 4-1, and tops the group.

Gokulam Kerala FC head coach Vincenzo Alberto Annese has named a strong squad for the tournament.

Gokulam Kerala FC have signed four foreigners, midfielder Sharif Mukhammad (Afghanistan), defender Aminou Bouba (Cameroon), strikers Rahim Osumanu (Ghana), and Elvis Chikatara (Nigeria).

The team also consists of 12 Kerala players. Two of them, Rishad PP and Abhijith K were promoted from the Gokulam Kerala FC developmental squad.

“Each game is a final to me. It is important for us to win the match and grab all three points. Army red is good in the attacking and defending phases. I believe this will be an interesting contest,” said Gokulam Kerala FC head coach Vincenzo Alberto Annese.
