Ronaldo Oliviera’s second half hattrick and a goal from Liston Colaco gave Salgaocar FC Juniors all three points in their GFA First Division match against Holy Cross SC of Arambol played at Duler Stadium in Mapusa.
In the North versus South encounter which was played in the scorching heat produced a very exciting match. In the first half both teams had maximum share of the ball as they created chances for themselves but the strikers could not score. Jason Barbosa of the Salgaocar Juniors came close in scoring the lead for his team, but his solo effort only found his shot palmed away by the keeper. Not long after that the Arambol based side rattled the crossbar much to the relief for the Salgaocar FC keeper through a well taken free kick. The first half did not produce any goals, it ended 0-0.
The second half saw more action and five goals. It was in the 59th minute, Stephen Satarkar set up a through ball which pierced passed through Holy Cross defence for Jason Barbosa who had just the keeper to beat, who did not go for glory but set the ball for Ronaldo who was in a more comfortable position to score, 1-0.
Liston who was brought in late in the first half due to an injury got his name onto the scoresheet three minutes later with a beautiful volley from a Sanson Pereira cross which left the keeper no chance in saving it, 2-0.
In the 75th minute Stephen again was in the spring of action when he played in a long ball over the rival defence which was met by Ronaldo who made no mistake in putting it behind the nets, 3-0.
Leslee Britto of Holy Cross smacked in a long range shot which the Salgaocar FC keeper had no chance in saving it. This goal did reduce the margin and brought the match back to life after the three goal set back they received, the scoreline read 3-1. Late in added time in the 92nd minute Liston lobbed in a perfect ball to Ronaldo who tapped in his third and Salgaocars fourth to seal the match.
