SC East Bengal hold Jamshedpur FC to a goalless draw!

After bagging their first ISL-7 victory, Jamshedpur FC faced SC East Bengal for their second away game of the season.

SC East Bengal, on the other hand, headed into the clash as the only side in the league with no points this season yet. They hosted Jamshedpur FC at Tilak Maidan for their fifth fixture of the season while they had an extra game to be played in hand.

Jamshedpur FC took the game underway with both the teams hungry to win. Jamshedpur FC, without wasting any time, unleashed their very first attack in the play after the hosts lost ball possession but William could not get to the ball in time. It was a very dominating start for Jamshedpur FC as they threatened the hosts with a corner and a freekick in the first 5 minutes of the game. Unfortunately, nothing came out of those chances.

Aniket, who was added to the starting XI for this match, got the first opportunity to take the Red Miners to the lead after a lovely through-ball from Mobashir. Aniket received the ball and tried to chip it over the keeper who was way off his line but he put too much power behind the ball and it flew over the post. A few chances emerged for the SC East Bengal side as well with a few freekicks but the Jamshedpur FC defence managed to evade the danger easily.

Jamshedpur FC kept the pressure high on the SC East Bengal defence as they kept pressing on with a number of attacks and attempts on goal but they couldn’t produce an opener. After a series of rash tackles shared by both sides in the Jamshedpur FC defence, a quarrel erupted as players of both the teams clashed with each other. Anthony Pilkington and Aitor got into a heated exchange. The referee calmed down the situation first and then gave Lyngdoh his marching order as the referee flashed the second yellow card thus leading to a send-off as Eugeneson had already been booked with a yellow just a few minutes prior. The players calmed down as the hosts went down to 10 men. Another chance came for Jamshedpur FC as Eze took full advantage of his height and nailed a header on goal which unfortunately hit the woodwork and deflected away from the goal thus denying Jamshedpur FC their much-needed opener.

And that’s how a very heated first half which was fully dominated by Jamshedpur FC with multiple attacks from all sides, came to an end with no goals.

The second half kicked off with Jamshedpur FC aiming to take advantage of the extra man on their side as they invaded the opposition’s side multiple times to convert the opportunities to goals. The game cooled down eventually and did not see any significant moments. However, Jamshedpur FC rained down attacks on the hosts keeping the pressure high on the SC East Bengal defensive line.

Jamshedpur FC almost netted their first goal of the match as a free-kick was cleared back outside of the box; Alex collected the ball to himself after which he cracked a powerful shot at goal but the ball flew off after brushing the crossbar and yet another opportunity to take the lead was missed. The SC East Bengal squad put up a really good performance even with a man down; their defensive wall held their ground well to keep the Jamshedpur FC attack at bay and kept the score neutral. Jamshedpur received multiple chances to score a goal in both halves but could not convert those into goals.

As the match came to its closing moments, Jamshedpur FC too lost a man as Dinliana was shown a second yellow card for a rash tackle from behind to Jacques Maghoma. With Dinliana being sent off, both the sides now came down to 10 men on the field for the remaining few minutes until the final whistle.

The intriguing match finally came to an end with no goals seen at Tilak Maidan and even though the fixture did not end as expected for the Red Miners, the team still moved up in the standings to firth as they walked away with a point.
