Indian Super League side SC East Bengal have announced the retention of Sourav Das, while they have signed Songpu Singsit from NEROCA FC.
The defensive midfielder Sourav Das joined SC East Bengal on loan from Mumbai City FC in the January 2021 transfer window, playing three games for the Robbie Fowler-coached outfit. Sourav added stability in the midfield, with a passing accuracy of 78.5 percent.
“I am thrilled to be part of SC East Bengal for another season. Hailing from Bengal, I know what this club means to all the fans here and that motivates me further. I am also looking forward to working with the gaffer (Robbie Fowler) again. My experience with the team was brilliant last time around,” said the 25-year old Sourav.
A product of the Tata Football Academy, Sourav moved to the I-League side Mohun Bagan AC in 2016. The 2018-19 season turned out to be Sourav’s breakthrough year, as he played a key role in the Mariners’ winning the Calcutta Football League, besides also making 11 appearances for the club in the I-League. Sourav made seven appearances for Mumbai City FC in the ISL 2019-20 season before joining SC East Bengal during the January transfer window.
Songpu Singsit joined the red and gold brigade from I-League side NEROCA FC where he had a stellar last term, becoming the I-League Fans Emerging Player for the 2020-2021 season.
“It is a big opportunity for me. SC East Bengal is one of the biggest clubs in India and I am so fortunate to be here. I will look to prove myself every day and give my best. I will also learn so much from the coaching staff and senior players around,” said the 22-year old who is blessed with searing pace and is skillful on the ball. “I am training hard every day, getting ready for the season. I can’t wait for the ISL to start,” he added.
Singsit scored three goals and had three assists to his name in 14 games for NEROCA FC.
Singsit previously played for Muvanlai Athletics Sports Club before joining NEROCA last season.
