Second Division League: Depleted Hindustan FC host Mohammedan Sporting!

Mohammedan Sporting Club will be playing their third match of the ongoing 2016/17 Second Division League, as they take on Hindustan FC in an Preliminary Round Group-B encounter at the Ambedkar Stadium in Delhi on Sunday.

Interestingly, this will be Mohammedan Sporting’s first visit to Ambedkar Stadium since their historical triumph in 2013 Durand Cup, where they beat ONGC Mumbai in final to clinch the title after 73 years.

Coached by Ranjan Chaudhury, Mohammedan Sporting began with a 0-2 defeat against Southern Samity. However, the Black Panthers bounced back to winning ways against NEROCA FC and facing Hindustan FC, in their first away game of the season, coach Chaudhury made it clear that he wants nothing but consistency in performance from the team.

“We played a very good game against NEROCA FC, if you consider that they are one of the best teams in the league. We had a lot of opportunities and of course we have to learn how we can utilise these opportunities. We need to learn from every game and improve,” said coach Chaudhury.

Currently, second in the table with three points from two games, this match is of big significance for Mohammedan Sporting, as an away win will make their quest stronger in their pursuit for a final round spot while anything less will hurt them badly.

Hindustan FC, on the other hand, have had a utterly disappointing campaign so far, as they have started with narrow 0-1 defeat to NEROCA FC at home before going down 0-3 against Southern Samity last weekend.

However, coach Chaudhury knows it very well that Hindustan FC, who gave NEROCA FC run for their money, won’t be an easy opponent especially at home and will also come hard at Mohammedan Sporting for full points to allow themselves some breathing space in the table.

“We know perfectly that Hindustan FC is a difficult team. They have shown they are a tough team at home. It’s difficult for us but we are ready for this game.” coach Chaudhury added further.

On the team news front, defender Phoolchand Hembrom and goalkeeper Sheikh Sadekuddin has been drafted into the traveling squad leaving out Kamran Farooque and Sankar Roy.

The match at Ambedkar Stadium kicks off at 11am on Sunday morning.
