Second Division League: TRAU beat Mohammedan Sporting 3-1, top of group again!

The contrasting forms in the Second Division League – Group C continued with Manipuri side TRAU FC beating Kolkata giants Mohammedan Sporting Club 3-1 at the Barasat Stadium in Kolkata on Saturday, May 5.

With this win TRAU are again top of Group C with 17 points from 8 matches.

Rahul Jaiswal scored for the Black Panthers, while Malemnganba Meitei, Princewell Olariche Emeka and Ngangbam Noacha scored for the guests from TRAU FC.

After a cautiously start, TRAU began to take command of the game in the latter part of the first half and in one of its frenetic efforts captain Phalguni Singh was yellow carded in the 38th minute and he will be missing his next match against Chennaiyin FC at home as it was his second yellow card in the competition.

TRAU finally scored in the 41st minute through Kshetrimayum Malemnganba, which helped his side go into the break with a 1-0 lead.

After the breather, TRAU strengthened their lead through a well crafted goal from Princewell Olariche Emeka in the 49th minute. Mohammedan Sporting down by two goals tried their best to reduce the deficit but they failed in that effort.

And things got even worse when Ngangbam Naocha, who came in place of Malemnganba in the 68th minute, beat Subham Roy and handed TRAU a 3-0 lead in the 89th minute of the match.

Mohammedan Sporting only were able to score a consolation goal in the 90th minute to make it 1-3 at the end for TRAU FC.
