Six boys from Minerva Punjab FC called up for training with India U-17 World Cup squad!

Following Minerva Punjab FC colts successful tour to Goa where the were invited to play two friendly matches against the India U-17 World Cup squad (whom they defeated 1-0) and India U-15 Team (whom they defeated 2-0) six more players from the Minerva U-16 team have been selected to join the India U-17 World Cup team that will represent India in the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup to be hosted in India.

After Minerva Academy FC won the U-15 Youth League in 2016 four boys namely Shubham Sarangi, Narender, Manvir Singh and Givson Singh were selected for the U-17 World cup camp. Out of these players Shubham Sarangi and Narendra have secured their place in the U-17 World Cup squad and have been practicing with the team over the last year and Givson was absorbed into the India U-19 team. This year again Minerva Punjab FC Juniors won the U-16 Youth League for the second year in a row. This is what led the AIFF to invite Minerva Punjab FC to play two friendly matches against the India U-17 and India U-15 Teams under the charge of newly appointed gaffer of Team India- Luís Norton de Matos who has his tasks cut out for him with only eight months remaining before the U-17 World Cup begins. Following the losses to Minerva Punjab FC side, AIFF have been faced with many tough questions about the defeat of the U-17 World Cup bound team.

The new Portuguese head coach Luís Norton de Matos was impressed with the technical skills and physical strength of the Minerva boys has called up 6 boys from the Minerva Punjab FC to join the U-17 World Cup team camp immediately.

The selected boys are

1. Anwar Ali – Central Defender

2. Mohammed Shahjahan – Attacking Midfielder and Striker

3. Ashem Henba – Defensive Mid Fielder

4. Nongdamba Naorem – Winger and Striker

5. Jackson Singh – Defensive Mid Fielder- Minerva U-16 and U-18 captain

6. Amarjit Mishra – Right Fullback and Right winger

The boys have joined the training after completing various medical and age tests. With these six boys included in the squad, a total of 10 boys of Minerva Punjab FC have been called for the U-17 World Cup camp, more than any other club or academy in the country.

Club owner, Ranjit Bajaj was thrilled with the selection of the boys of Team India and said, “I am delighted that within a short span of two years we have been able to contribute more than 10 boys to various age groups national teams from our youth development program. I feel a great sense of pride and satisfaction when I see our boys in the National Team jersey, after all that’s why this club was started, to contribute to indian football. It will be awesome to see Minerva Boys playing for India in the U-17 World Cup.”
