South Africa community group enjoy AFC Bournemouth Tour!

AFC Bournemouth’s Community Sports Trust have enjoyed welcoming another group of young people from South Africa over the past three weeks.

The under-18 girls, a group of 12 from Johannesburg and Durban, visited Bournemouth after a successful trip for the under-18 boys.

Throughout their trip, the girls took part in training and recovery sessions, making the most of the 3G pitch facilities at the Ringwood Community Hub and Vitality Stadium.

They put their training into practice with games against AFC Bournemouth’s academy girls, Wimborne Town and a team from the community’s Female Football Education programme. Additionally, they partook in a Premier League Kicks girls football festival at Slades Park.

On top of their training and playing, the girls visited Vitality Stadium for an exclusive look behind the scenes, taking in the dressing rooms, media suite and looking at the pitch from the technical area.

They also took part in a question and answer session with AFC Bournemouth Women’s players Holly Humphreys and Molly Clark. The players spoke to them about their day-to-day life, fitting football in around their education and work commitments, and what it’s like to be an AFC Bournemouth player.

The South Africa Community Group were also able to support the Cherries, both men’s and women’s teams, as they attended the Premier League fixtures against Fulham and Brighton, before ending their stay in Bournemouth with one final trip to Vitality Stadium to be a part of a record breaking crowd supporting the women’s team against Maidenhead.

Speaking after their stay, Head of Community Steve Cuss said, “The girls tour was part of the South Africa Community project and it was a pleasure to host at Bournemouth. We wish the training groups the best for the future and look forward to continuing the project together.”
