Sporting Clube de Goa beat Clube Sao Miguel Taleigao in the TACA U-20 Goa match at the Duler Stadium in Mapusa on Thursday. Daryl Costa’s 50th minute header was the difference between the two sides.
The first half witnessed a drab affair as either teams failed to make their chances count. Sporting Goa forwards Akeraj Martins and Daryl Costa combined well to create a handful of chances. The best of which came in the 18th minute when Shawn Noronha set up a charging Daryl on the right but the latter mistimed his run. At the other end Ronaldo Dais made a mess of a good opportunity for Sao Miguel towards the end of the first half. It stayed goalless at the break.
In the second half Sporting Goa started with intent, the first five minutes saw the young Oranje create two good chances. It was Daryl’s day to open the scoresheet in the 50th minute when he brilliantly read a long ball from Shawn Noronha to hoodwink the Sao Miguel keeper and two defenders who came charging forward.
After scoring the goal Sporting Goa surged ahead with confidence. At the hour mark Akeraj managed to unleash a powerful shot which was deflected by a Sao Miguel defender keeping them alive in the game. Towards the end of the last quarter Snedden Rodrigues missed a golden opportunity when he failed to capitalize on a good cross from Aliston Camotio from the right.
With this win Sporting Clube de Goa climb to the top with 13 points from five matches played, while Clube Sao Miguel Taleigao remain at the bottom with only one point.
