After a comfortable home win against TRAU FC, Sreenidi Deccan FC are on the road again as they take on Aizawl FC in a Matchweek 14 I-League fixture at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium on Monday. The Deccan Warriors were handed a 1-2 defeat by the hosts in the corresponding game at the beginning of the season and will be out to settle that score.
Head Coach Carlos Vaz Pinto and midfielder Lalbiakliana addressed the media ahead of the game. “Playing against Aizawl FC is always difficult, especially here in Mizoram. They have quality players and we will have to at our best to get anything out of this game. Our preparation was okay, as much as it can be with the travel involved and the gap between games,” said Vaz Pinto. “Our players are motivated and they are focused on achieving our targets. They know we have to run more and work more than our opponents to get a good result here.”
Hailing from the outskirts of Aizawl, Lalbiakliana has not played professionally in his hometown, joining Sudeva Delhi FC two years ago before making the switch to Sreenidi Deccan last summer. The teenager has caught the eye this season with his skilful dribbling and ability to go past players. “It will be a pleasure playing in front of my family and friends but my focus is on the game and getting the three points. We have 4 other Mizos (Lalromawia, Brandon Vanlalremdika, Lalnuntluanga and Lawmnasangzuala) in the team so everyone is looking forward to the game,” he said.
The match will kick off at 7pm IST on Monday, February 19 and will be telecast live on Eurosport India, the Indian Football YouTube channel and the FanCode App.
