Stessi Cardozo hattrick helps FC Goa Women beat Compassion FC!

The FC Goa’s Women’s Team was at its flowing best as they easily beat off the challenge of Compassion FC, winning the game 6-0 in the end during a one-sided clash at the Duler Stadium in Mapusa on Thursday, March 4.

Following a 1-0 victory in their last match against Futebol Club YFA, the team was full of confidence, and it showed as they ran out to the pitch with a bit of swagger.

After a bit of early domination, the Gaurs took the lead through talisman Stessi Cardozo in the 21st minute, who made up for a missed penalty in the last match against Futebol Club YFA.

The dominance continued after the opening goal, and before long it was 2-0 thanks to a smart finish from FC Goa skipper Vailanka D’Souza, while Stessi Cardozo scored once again shortly after to make it 3-0, pretty much ending the contest before the end of the first half.

The start of the second period brought with it more sustained pressure on the Compassion goal, and the Gaurs were rewarded again in the 53rd minute, this time via Flani Costa.

Easily the pick of the goals, Flani’s long range effort was reminiscent of Glan Martins’ worldie against Mumbai City FC in the ISL, and made it 4-0 in this particular game.

Joyvi Fernandes got in on the act as well with just over 20 minutes left to play, while Stessi Cardozo sealed her hat-trick before the end of the game to ensure FC Goa leave Duler with maximum points and a 6-0 rout to show for their efforts.

The women’s team remains unbeaten in their first two games of the GFA Vedanta Women’s League, and will be back in action on March 7 against Sirvodem SC at Navelim with kickoff at 3:45 PM.
