Street Football Art meets football for a one-day-only special exhibition!

FIFA World Football MuseumFrom the bustling streets of Berlin and New York, to the winding alleys of Marrakesh and São Paulo: football is at home everywhere. The game’s elite play on some of the most lavishly assembled stadiums and pitches but in the countless corners and backyards of cities and towns across the globe, the beautiful game continues to thrive. More than just entertainment; the world’s most popular sport inspires artists of all different backgrounds and styles. Many see it is as art itself.

In an effort to bring football and art together, the FIFA World Football Museum in Zurich is hosting a free, one-day-only special exhibition: #StreetFootballArt. In keeping with the global campaign International Museum Day, this year being held on May 22, the event will be organised around the theme of ‘museums and cultural landscapes’. As part of a diverse and interactive program, the museum has invited various artists – each practicing a very different type of art – to get involved.

An exhibition of graffiti will be led by internationally respected, and Zurich’s own, graffiti artist group One Truth. Professional dancer and choreographer Kelechi Onyele, who has worked with the likes of Kylie Minogue and appeared as a judge on Germany’s version of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’, will perform and lead workshops on how to mix street dance with football. While another Zurich-local and six-time footbag world champion Tina Aeberli will be demonstrating her incredible ball skills and leading a workshop for visitors too.

Additionally, photographs of urban football landscapes – some of which have been submitted by fans and hobby photographers from around the world over the last month – will also be on display. To keep tummies from rumbling, the museum’s Bistro with its sunny terraces will offer a selection of tasty street food that is sure to go down a treat. Ahead of the Sunday event itself, between 14:00 and 19:00 on May 20/21 at Tessiner Platz, the One Truth duo will be creating a live painting – which will then be displayed at the #StreetFootballArt event.

“We are very much looking forward to International Museum Day and we can’t wait to welcome our visitors to our free temporary exhibition”, said the museum’s director Stefan Jost.
