Sub-Junior Nationals – North Zone: Delhi beat Punjab 4-0!

Delhi notched-up their second straight win after edging past two strong rivals in their group league matches of the Sub-Junior National Football Championship – North Zone qualifiers being held at Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh.

Delhi defeated rivals Punjab 4-0 to collect three full points. In the initial half proceedings, Delhi got a penalty-kick through S. Ashu who was brought down by Punjab stopper back Jaswant Singh in the 7th minute, but Prachat Sharma missed the target. After that in the 37th minute, Ashu gave Delhi the 1-0 lead off a solo effort.

On changing ends, Ashu again struck off a powerful left footed shot to make score 2-0. In the 47th minute, Ashu again struck to complete his hattrick off a well measured pass received from Keshav. In the later stages, Keshav himself found the net to make it 4-0 off a left placement.

With this win, Delhi tops the table with six points. Uttarakhand and Chandigarh have earned three points from two games each. Punjab have none from two games.

Delhi next face Uttarakhand tomorrow, January 1. Earlier, Delhi had beaten Chandigarh 2-0 in their opening match.
