Sudeva Delhi FC hope for turnaround in fortunes against positive Churchill Brothers!

Sudeva Delhi FC will face Churchill Brothers in their I-League 2022-23 encounter at the Chhatrasal Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday, December 10. The match promises to be a crucial six-pointer in the relegation battle, even as early as the seventh round of the league.

The hosts will be desperate to turn things around, having suffered five losses in a row since the start of the campaign and currently sitting five points adrift at the foot of the points table (with one game in hand). In their last match away to defending champions Gokulam Kerala FC, they showed fight and spirit — creating chances and entering the half-time break goalless — but eventually succumbed to a 0-3 defeat. However, a victory against the Red Machines could prove to be a turning point and breathe new life into their season.

Churchill Brothers, meanwhile, also had a slow start to their campaign and are currently placed second from bottom on the league standings. But, they will have momentum on their side, having defeated Kolkata giants Mohammedan Sporting in their last fixture, and that too after coming back from a goal behind. A win against Sudeva Delhi will not only move them up the table but also increase the points gap for the Delhi side from the rest of the pack.

The last meeting between the two sides was won by Sudeva Delhi last season, courtesy of William Pauliankhum’s late strike.

At the customary pre-match press conference, Sudeva Delhi’s goalkeeping coach Mark Mascarenhas stressed on the importance of remaining positive. He said, “I feel that despite the results, we still have to stay positive. We know that it is a difficult situation for us but we are working hard to come out with a positive result tomorrow and get those three points. Churchill Brothers won their last match and will be a little more confident. However, we hope to make our home advantage count.”

Defender Manjit Sharma said, “We are a very young squad, with not many experienced players. But, we are confident that we will bounce back for sure. We look forward to the home support from our fans in Delhi and expect to win tomorrow’s match.”

Churchill Brothers assistant coach Mateus Costa expressed confidence in his team after their recent win. “Winning the three points is always a source of great confidence for the boys. Now, we want to carry this momentum forward and do even better. We have some new faces in the team now as well and they will surely give us a boost,” he said.

Midfielder Kingslee Fernandes said, “We expect to get all three points from the next match. It is a great motivation to have some new, experienced signings join the team and we are all combining well. May the best team win tomorrow!”

The match between Sudeva Delhi FC and Churchill Brothers will kick off at 2pm IST, and will be broadcast live on Eurosport and Doordarshan Sports, and streamed live on the Discovery Plus OTT platform.
