SV Darmstadt 98 have signed Gerrit Holtmann on loan from VfL Bochum. The 28-year-old attacker, who most recently spent time on loan at Turkish top-flight club Antalyaspor, will play for SV Darmstadt 98 for the remainder of the second half of the current 2023/24 Bundesliga season.
SV Darmstadt 98 head coach Torsten Lieberknecht said, “We are delighted that we were able to convince Gerrit to join us in Darmstadt. Gerrit and I still know each other from our time together in Braunschweig and even after that I have always followed his career. With him, we are adding a fast, dynamic team player to the team who is at home on the left side. Tom Eilers, Michael Stegmayer, the entire scouting department and I think he’s a very good fit for us. In addition, with over a hundred Bundesliga games under his belt, he brings a wealth of experience to the table and knows exactly what is important in the top flight.”
Gerrit Holtmann said, “The discussions with the people in charge immediately impressed me and gave me a good feeling. Of course, I am happy to be able to work with Torsten Lieberknecht again, who was one of my discoverers and helped me tremendously in my development in the first years of my professional career. I can’t wait to get started. We have a lot of plans for the next few months, which we want to make positive and crown with staying in the Bundesliga.”
Holtmann’s first stop in the men’s division was Eintracht Braunschweig, where he made his professional debut under head coach Torsten Lieberknecht in the 2014/15 second division season. After spells at Mainz 05 and SC Paderborn, he finally moved to VfL Bochum in the summer of 2020, who transferred the attacker to Antalyaspor on loan last August 2023. Holtmann has made a total of 102 Bundesliga appearances for Bochum, Mainz and Paderborn and has a total of 18 goal involvements (9 goals, 9 assists) in the top flight. The Bremerhaven-born attacker made a total of two international appearances for the Philippine national team, in which he scored one goal.
For the Lilies, Holtmann will wear the number 25 shirt in the future.
