SYNLAB to continue providing COVID-19 testing at UEFA EURO 2020 & UEFA competition matches!

SYNLAB is to continue providing PCR-testing for SARS-CoV-2 for the upcoming UEFA EURO 2020 and all UEFA competition matches in the 2021/22 season. As the ‘UEFA Laboratory Diagnostics Provider 2021/22’, SYNLAB will support the implementation of UEFA’s rigorous Return to Play Protocol in order to create the safest possible environment for teams, officials and venue staff.

During this summer’s tournament, SYNLAB will utilise its broad European laboratory network to provide advanced diagnostics, testing all 24 teams as well as officials and venue staff at the 11 dedicated match sites across the continent.

“As the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic continues, the health and well-being of players, staff, referees and everyone operating in the stadium remains our absolute priority,” said UEFA deputy general secretary, Giorgio Marchetti.

“The last year has shown that partnering with an industry leader like SYNLAB allows us to ensure that all UEFA competition matches are played in as safe as possible an environment. We are looking forward to continuing this successful cooperation with SYNLAB.”

Throughout the 2020/21 season, SYNLAB successfully conducted more than 160,000 PCR-tests for UEFA competition matches.

“We are pleased to continue our successful and trusted partnership with UEFA. Based on SYNLAB’s clear commitment to medical excellence, we will continue to make every effort to leverage our broad capabilities across Europe to ensure that the testing of players, officials and venue staff is implemented in the best possible way,” said Mathieu Floreani, CEO of SYNLAB.

“Especially in view of UEFA EURO 2020, we are proud to play our part in creating the safest possible environment for Europe’s unique football event. The tournament will bring joy to millions – if not billions – of football fans in Europe and beyond, in times of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

SYNLAB operates in 36 countries across four continents and employs around 20,000 people, including over 1,200 medical experts as well as a large number of other specialists. SYNLAB carries out an estimated 500 million laboratory tests on an annual basis.
