Syria FA expands the reach of grassroots football to people with hearing disabilities!

The Syrian Football Association (SFA) continued to promote football to people across the country regardless of their background and abilities by introducing a Syria Cup Futsal Football Championship for those with hearing impairment.

Together with the Paralympic Committee in Syria, SFA worked with cities in the country to establish a local tournament with the winner representing their city in the Syria Cup Championship.

A total of six teams from six cities – Damascus, Lattakia, Aleppo, Quneitra, As Suwayda and Daraa – participated in the seven-day competition with each team consisting of one head coach, 10 players and several staff members.

The competition was officiated by international referees with special regulations for the players. Representatives from the Olympic Committee and the Paralympic Committee also attended the closing ceremony.

SFA Technical Director Muhannad Al Fakeer said, “We believe that everyone has the right to play football and we want to give them the space. We want to prove to everyone that football is an effective way to implement our social responsibility efforts and it is a language that everyone can understand without difficulties.”

Participants also received certificates, medals and a trophy from the SFA at the end of the event.

After receiving the AFC Grassroots Charter Bronze Membership in June, 2021, the SFA remains committed to increasing the grassroots participation and to provide more opportunities for everyone to enjoy playing football.
