TACA U-20 Goa: Sporting Goa score 5-0 win over Corps of Signals!

sporting-goa-u20-corps-of-signals-u20Sporting Clube de Goa extended their lead to four points at the top of the TACA Under-20 Goa championship table with a comfortable 5–0 victory over Corps of Signals at the Raia ground on Wednesday. Four goals from Akeraj Martins (26’, 74’, 82’, 88’) and one from Gautam Dias (90’+) ensured the young Flaming Oranje went back with the three points.

It was the Flaming Oranje who made the first inroad into the Corps box in the 7th minute through a brilliant run from Akeraj Martins whose strike was eventually saved by the keeper; the rebound came straight to Gautam Dias who couldn’t either put it past a determined Corps custodian. Corps of Signal lads should have taken the lead in the 15th minute when Cyril Dias read a good cross from the midfield and came one on one against Sherwin da Cunha who found himself in a tight spot after charging out. However the former failed to capitalise on this situation and chipped the ball above the nets. In the 26th minute Daryl Costa got hold of a good ball and shot it straight at the Corps keeper who fumbled, Akeraj lurking around the box took the advantage and put it in giving the lead to Sporting Goa. The next 20 odd minutes saw both sides trying to chime the opponent’s box but failed to register anything significant. The scoreline stayed 1–0 at half-time.

Changing ends Sporting Goa got a fantastic opportunity in the 58th minute when Shawn Noronha made a good run on the left to cut in catching the Corps defender on his wrong foot to win a penalty, however the second half sub Perryson Fernandes could only manage a weak shot straight into the hands of the Corps keeper who did well to stand put.

It wasn’t until the 74th minute that the game changed its trajectory in Sporting Goa’s favour. Akeraj Martins once again was spot on to receive a good ball from Prisco in the middle and calmly put it past the keeper giving the young Oranje a cushion they were searching. In the last 10 minutes Akeraj went on to score two wonderful goals, most of which he created all by himself. In the 82nd and 88th minute he made two brilliant runs on the left dribbling past a swamp of defenders showing great ball control and composure to ensure he completed his hattrick and added one more for the road. It wasn’t over yet as Gautam Dias added the last one in the injury time with a whack from the edge of the box making it 5–0.

With this win Sporting Clube de Goa lead the TACA Under-20 Goa table with 16 points from six outings.
