Updates to the 2022 CONCACAF Caribbean Club Shield!

CONCACAF has announced changes to the 2022 CONCACAF Caribbean Club Shield (CCCS). The tournament will take place at the Estadio Centroamericano de Mayagüez and Estadio Juan Ramón Loubriel in Puerto Rico from April 15-24, 2022.

The CONCACAF Caribbean Club Shield’s fourth edition was originally scheduled to be played between 13 clubs, but after the withdrawal of Flames United SC and Scholars International SC (due to unexpected travel and logistics issues) the Confederation has reorganized the groups and updated the semifinal qualification criteria.

To guarantee and prioritize the integrity of the competition, the 11 participating teams have been redistributed into three groups. The new groups are now as follows:

Group A: Bayamón FC (PUR), Platinum FC (LCA), Southeast FC (DMA), Junior Stars FC (SMN)
Group B: SV Real Rincon (BOE), SWA Sharks FC (TCA), CRKSV Jong Holland (CUW), AS Gosier (GLP)
Group C: Deportivo Nacional (ARU), Golden Lion (MTQ), Inter Moengo Tapoe (SUR)

After group stage play, the three group winners and the best second place finisher will advance to the semifinals.

To determine the second place finisher that will advance to the semifinals and the semifinal matchups, teams will be ranked based on an average of points earned per match played, average goal difference, average number of goals scored, and if required, average points based on yellow and red cards (averages for all tiebreaker criteria due to the uneven number of teams per group).

The updated semifinal pairing are as follows:

  • 2nd Best Group Winner vs. 3rd Best Group Winner
  • Best Group Winner vs. Best ranked second place finisher

If the best ranked second place finisher is from the same group as the Best Group Winner, then the semifinal matchups will be as follows:

  • 2nd Best Group Winner vs Best Ranked Second place finisher
  • Best Group Winner vs 3rd Best Group Winner

The semifinal matches will take place on April 22, followed by the final and the third place match on Sunday, April 24.

Provided the 2022 CCCS Champion fulfills the CONCACAF Regional Club Licensing criteria required to participate in the Scotiabank CONCACAF League (SCL), a play-in match will be disputed on May 24, 2022, between the fourth-place finisher of the 2022 CONCACAF Caribbean Club Championship (CCCC) and the 2022 CCCS Champion. The winner of this match, to be played in Santiago, Dominican Republic, will claim the last Caribbean berth in the 2022 SCL.

Fans in the Caribbean will be able to follow and enjoy the competition on Flow Sports. For fans in other parts of the region and the world, matches will be available on the CONCACAF Official App. The free mobile app is available in the Apple and Google Play stores.
