VIDEO – 420 Grams S01E22: India to Host FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup; But Do Women Get to Play?

India has bagged the rights to host the 2020 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup. This will be the first time a women’s team will represent India at one of FIFA’s World Cups.

The move is a positive one from the perspective of providing an impetus to young women looking to participate in sport. However, the challenges on the ground are immense and deeply rooted.

Seasoned journalists Mihir Vasavda of the Indian Express and Sharda Ugra from ESPN India join 420 Grams in studio to understand what those challenges are and whether hosting big-ticket events is the right way to grow sport in India.
