Spanish defender Odei Onaindia won the HFC Player of the Year award for the 2022-23 season as Hyderabad Football Club conducted its first-ever Club Awards to celebrate the achievements in the 2022-23 season on Saturday.
In what was a historic season for multiple reasons, Hyderabad FC amassed a club record 42 point-tally, and appeared in two semi-finals, while setting numerous other records and the Club Award night was a way to felicitate all the hard-working superstars that have given their all to the team for over nine months now.
The night began with the Staff of the Year award which was voted by all the first-team players. Team captains Joao Victor and Laxmikant Kattimani presented the award to the Team Masseur Sanjay Kumar, who remains a popular figure at the club right for three years now.
The club presented a Special Award to the staff contributing off the pitch, Daniel Jacob (Operations Assistant). His services to the club were well appreciated by everyone in the Yellow and Black army.
Moving to the players’ awards, Abdul Rabeeh won the Emerging Player award for his breakthrough season, where he registered three assists in the ISL to go with his first-ever goal in HFC colors in the Super Cup earlier this month.
A proud, first-team Assistant Coach Shameel Chembakath, who saw Rabeeh’s development from Reserve to first team, presented him the award among loud cheers.
Next up was Players’ Player, an award voted by all the players. Spanish defender Odei Onaindia who hardly put a foot wrong all throughout the season was unanimously voted for and received that award from Club Owner Varun Tripuraneni.
The next award was the Fans’ Player of the Year and with 27% of all votes received via the poll conducted on HFC Website, Mohammad Yasir bagged the award as he continues to be a firm fan favorite in the City of Pearls. He received his award from Club Officials, Atif Hyder, Surya Kumar Chintapula and Aakarsh Bommakanti.
Defender Odei Onaindia was named the Club’s Player of the Year for an outstanding season with his consistency and was presented the award by Sporting Director Appu Jose to conclude the first-of-its-kind awards night in Hyderabad.
