VIDEO: Indian Football Struggle? Who Should be blamed? Indian Super League or I-League?

isl-i-leagueThe video above tries to take the views of pundits, journalists and fans into account on where Indian club football stands today. I am one of those interviewed for this video.

Indian football has been considered as sleeping Giant by FIFA but the word Giant does our current situations do justice to it?

Over the last 4-5 years numerous clubs like Mahindra United, JCT, Pune FC have shut down and recently Goan giants Sporting Clube de Goa and Salgaocar FC pulled out of Indian top football league, while Dempo SC may follow the fellow Goan club.

The Recent Goan clubs Exodus from Indian football have made football pundits around the country think about the future of Indian football. The State has one of the best youth programs but if the talent coming from that don’t have a platform to showcase their talent it won’t take time before football in Goa might be extinct.

The Indian Super League has brought glamour into Indian football but the fact remains that numerous players have become jobless. India is a country where just a few clubs cannot help football grow in the country. For talent hubs like Goa, Kolkata, the NorthEast just one club cannot accommodate the talent available in the region. Some younger players are giving up football for some other profession due to the recession in Indian football.

The ISL has some positives so does the I-League. The Indian Super League have brought much needed glamour but legacy clubs are the one which has given us players. India from beating nations likes of Syria have come down to losing against Guam. Its High time the authorities bring everyone on same page and start taking some concrete decision for a stable future.

A structured league will only take us higher from here, not the confusion between two leagues.

What is the future of India? Will we continue enjoying the shallow dreams at expense of players and clubs?
